Rethink leftover pulled pork and create a delicious grilled pizza topped with barbecue sauce, pulled pork, sharp cheese, red onion, and cilantro. This Pulled Pork Pizza is incredibly flavorful and easy to make.

Are you stuck in a pizza rut? Have you limited yourself to the traditional flavors of pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and veggies?
While those are all delicious, changing up your pizza routine is NEVER a bad idea. From Buffalo Chicken Pizza to Taco Pizza to this Pulled Pork Pizza, I am all about variety when it comes to homemade pizza.
This recipe for Pulled Pork Pizza recipe starts with leftover Slow Cooked Pulled Pork or Instant Pot Pork and is one of the easiest, tastiest ways to enjoy pizza. The combination of pulled pork, sharp cheddar cheese, and a homemade pizza crust, can't be beaten.
Key Ingredients
- Pizza Dough: Use your favorite store-bought or homemade pizza dough.
- Leftover Pulled Pork: For this recipe use, leftover Instant Pot BBQ Pork or Slow Cooker Pulled Pork. You can also opt to use leftover rotisserie chicken or barbecue chicken.
- Shredded Cheese: A combination of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese is classic for barbecue pizzas. Feel free to use all shredded cheddar, Colby Jack, or Mozzarella cheese.
- Barbecue Sauce: Use your favorite barbecue sauce to spread on the pizza dough and toss your leftover meat with it if not coated in barbecue sauce already.
How to Make Pulled Pork Pizza
Making this pizza is super easy and you have two options for preparation. You can bake your pizza or grill it--which I highly recommend.
How to Grill Pizza
The best advice I have for making grilled pizza of any kind is to BE PREPARED with your supplies beforehand. Be sure to have long tongs, a spatula, and a baking sheet (that will fit on your grill and hold your pizza) ready, as grilling pizza dough is a quick process and you want to be prepared to move fast.
- Preheat your grill to high heat. Aim for 550-600 degrees--you want the temperature super hot, just like a pizza oven.
- Roll out the pizza dough into a pizza shape. And really, who cares if it is a rectangle, square, circle, oval, or star? I even let my kids go crazy and roll it out themselves. It gets their energy out. And saves me a step in the kitchen!
- After rolling out the dough, lightly brush both sides of the dough with some olive oil. This helps prevent the dough from sticking to your grill. Tip: You can also just brush one side of your pizza dough with olive oil, and then place it on the grill greased side down and brush the opposite side, once on the grill.
- Grill the pizza dough for 2-3 minutes, with the grill open; 1-2 minutes per side with the grill closed. The goal here is to cook the pizza dough until just browned. The dough will bubble up slightly and then will easily be able to be flipped with long tongs and/or spatula. If your pizza dough seems stuck to the grates, give it another 30 seconds or so. Much like meat, the dough will release from the grill easier once cooked through.
- It will not take long to grill the 2nd side of the pizza, so do not leave it unattended. Once the pizza dough is just browned, remove the dough to a large cookie sheet. Close the grill lid, and turn to medium-high heat.

- Spread the dough with a thin layer of BBQ sauce, cover with leftover Pulled pork, and then top with the shredded cheese.

- To finish the pizza on the grill, place a cookie sheet with loaded pizza directly on your grill and close the grill lid. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted. If you place your pizza directly on the grates of the grill instead of using a cookie sheet, your pulled pork pizza will be ready in 2-3 minutes.
- Once the cheese is melted, remove it from the grill and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing up and serving.

To Bake Pizza
You can also bake this Pulled Pork Pizza in the oven. To do so, roll out your pizza dough on a baking sheet and top the dough with barbecue sauce, pork, and cheese. Bake at 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.

- 1 lb pizza dough
- 1 lb leftover BBQ meat chicken or pork
- ¼-3/4 cup barbecue sauce
- 2-4 tablespoons diced red onion optional
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup cilantro chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Pre-heat the grill to medium high.
- Roll out dough to about ¼ inch thick and brush both sides with olive oil.
- Place dough on heated grill and close grill. Grill for about 4 minutes per side until dough gets starts to brown. Flip carefully and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the dough onto a large sheet tray or pizza pan. Top the dough with a thin layer of barbecue sauce--about ¼ of a cup. If the meat is not already tossed with barbecue sauce, toss with ½ cup additional barbecue sauce. Evenly spread the BBQ meat unto the pizza. Sprinkle the red onions evenly onto the meat, if using, and then cover with cheese.
- Place the sheet tray onto your grill and close the grill. Cook for 6-8 minutes until cheese is melted and gooey.
- Remove from grill and allow to rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Top with cilantro if desired.
Notes
- The best advice I have for making grilled pizza of any kind is to BE PREPARED with your supplies beforehand. Be sure to have long tongs, spatula and baking sheet (that will fit on your grill and hold your pizza) ready prior to beginning grilling pizza. Grilling pizza dough is a quick process and you want to be prepared to move fast.

- Feel free to substitute shredded chicken in place of shredded pork. In fact, you can use my recipe for Shredded Chicken cooked in pineapple juice and then just toss it with a bit of your favorite BBQ sauce.
